UP Heritage - Missouri Pacific

Word of Union Pacific's Proud Heritage program began to spread throughout railfan circles in the summer of 2005, and questions abounded. How many would there be? Which predecessor railroads would be honored? Would the locomotives be built by EMDI or GE, or both? The answers to a few of the questions became apparent on July 30, 2005, when UP rolled out SD70ACe #1982 to recognize the contributions of the Missouri Pacific to the UP heritage. Trackside observers were treated to a very artistic treatment of the MP's traditional blue livery with silver eagle. One year later, UP 1982 with a manifest in tow rattled the diamonds at Dolton Crossing, 15 miles south of downtown Chicago. (Photograph by: David L. Miller)
